Biography

 

Jurgen Borgers(born 1964) was introduced to art at a very early age by his grandfather who was passionate interest in sculptures and paintings. On leaving high school, Jurgen started studying to be a graduate teacher of Arts and Crafts and Textiles in Nijmegen. At the end of the first year of his course, he passed the entrance exams for the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht. During his first week at the Maastricht Academy, his professor- sculptor and artist Han van de Wetering- decided that Jurgen should immediately join the second year of the course. After five years of study, he passed his exams and was awarded the Dutch equivalent of a B.A. degree. While studying in Maastricht, Jurgen bought a farm house in the South of France, where he has lived and worked since 1994. He has worked for several years as a teacher of Art History and Visual Design at the lyceum Déodat de Séverac in Céret (in the South of France). In addition to his teaching of art, Jurgen is also practicing artist, and regularly exhibits his sculptures, paintings, installations and photographs. Beginning in 1990, he started buying works of art with his wife and three children. His collection number almost 500 paintings made by famous and not-so-famous 17th, 18th, and 19th century artists.
